In February, Moscow Building Supply (MBS) first opened its doors; it was owned and operated by Cecil Lovell. Located at 705 N. Main in Moscow, ID, the original store had approximately 500 sq. ft. of floor space and about 1,000 sq. ft. of covered warehouse. During this era, MBS carried a very small and limited product line.

Ray Bugh purchased the store from Cecil and added minimal lines of building materials to accommodate the local builders’ needs. MBS also purchased their first forklift and delivery truck, and officially became a contractor supply yard with delivery service! As demand increased and Moscow grew over the next 30 years, square footage was added to both the floor space and warehouse.

Pat Garrett purchased the company and surrounded himself with the best, most experienced employees available. It was the next several years that would see major market penetration and growth in sales. And after a steady incline in growth, MBS began to purchase all available adjoining land for storage of materials on which they built additional warehouses for dry storage. Eventually it became necessary to purchase extra materials, forklifts, and delivery fleet vehicles.

In December, Moscow Building Supply purchased Standard Lumber in downtown Pullman, WA. Located just ten miles away from Moscow, the new Pullman Building Supply (PBS) yard was expanded and remodeled to better serve our Pullman area customers. After the remodel and expansion, Pullman Building Supply was still little more than a Contractor Store with basic home improvement categories which still had more storage capabilities than the Moscow store at the time.

MBS left their home of forty-four years and built a state of the art Home Center right across the street which consists of 28,000 sq. ft. of retail space and a 65,000 sq. ft. covered drive through warehouse. This healthy investment brought with it many new products, offerings, services, and a major dedication to providing the very best in customer service.

In April, PBS expanded and relocated to a 120,000 sq. ft. Home Center on the South side of Pullman located next to Walmart. It features 40,000 sq. ft. of retail space and a 80,000 sq. ft. covered drive through warehouse. This new Home Center brings new departments to the company, including a flooring department, design center, housewares, and a full-line of clothing and footwear.
